Inside The Engine

How the AI Topic Generator Works

This is not a database of recycled titles. Every result is assembled on the spot from subject-specific keyword banks, academic theories, current trends and proven research templates — then matched to your level. Nothing is uploaded: the whole engine runs locally in your browser, in seconds.

1

Choose your subject

Why it matters: it loads the right terminology, contexts and theories for your discipline, so the ideas don't feel generic.

2

Choose your education level

Why it matters: it sets the difficulty from Beginner to Advanced. A PhD topic must be original and theory-heavy; an A-Level essay simply needs a clear, well-argued angle.

3

Choose your country or university system

Why it matters: it keeps the phrasing in line with the academic conventions of your system — for example, UK dissertation structure vs US-style papers.

4

Choose the output type

Why it matters: it switches the engine between dissertation topics, essay titles, research questions and survey questionnaires — each one built with a different structure.

5

Add a focus keyword (optional)

Why it matters: it steers the templates toward a specific area. Leave it blank and the engine picks a strong, current angle for your subject automatically.

6

Choose how many ideas

Why it matters: pick 4, 6 or 8 per run. More ideas means more variety to compare before you commit.

7

Generate

Why it matters: the engine composes original combinations on the fly and removes duplicates within each set — so a fresh run always turns up new possibilities.

8

Review your results

Why it matters: copy one idea, download everything, or draw a new set. If a title feels forced, add a keyword and re-run to narrow the focus.

The tool gives you a strong starting point, not a finished answer. Always check the wording against your brief and discuss your shortlist with your supervisor before committing weeks to it.

Output Types

What Can You Generate?

Four output types, each solving a slightly different problem. Here is what the generator builds, and what makes each one actually usable.

Dissertation Topic

A one-line research direction you can build a full proposal or dissertation around.

  • Narrow enough to complete in your word count
  • Backed by an existing literature base and visible sources
  • Relevant to your programme's assessment demands
  • A clear theoretical angle you can actually apply
Found a strong direction? Have a tutor stress-test its feasibility before you commit. Get dissertation guidance

Essay Title

A focused prompt you can argue. A topic says what you study; a title frames the debate or question you answer.

  • Starts with a command word — evaluate, discuss, to what extent
  • Frames a clear position you can defend
  • Small enough to argue well inside your word limit
  • Carries a theory or angle to structure the response

Research Question

The precise question your study will answer — the spine of any empirical project.

  • Specific enough to investigate in your timeframe
  • Answerable with real primary or secondary data
  • Aligned to clear objectives and a matching methodology
  • Original, yet realistic in scope and access
Unsure whether your question is researchable? An academic tutor can check it fast. Speak to an academic tutor

Survey Questionnaire

A ready-structured set of questions for collecting primary data from your target population.

  • Demographic and multiple-choice items for facts
  • Likert scales for attitudes and levels of agreement
  • Frequency questions for behaviour and usage
  • Open-ended questions for context and explanation

How to Evaluate a Generated Topic

Treat the generated ideas as a shortlist, not a final answer. Run each candidate through six quick checks before you invest time in it.

  1. Relevance — does it stay inside your module, brief and programme scope?
  2. Scope — can you realistically finish it within your word count and deadline? If it feels too broad, narrow it with a sector, population or time period.
  3. Researchability & literature — can you access enough sources, datasets or participants, and is there a visible academic literature base to support the topic and your citation requirements?
  4. Methodology — every idea is tagged with a method (qualitative, quantitative, case study and more). Keep it only if that method suits your question and your access.
  5. University requirements — compare the wording against your marking rubric, referencing style and any supervisor guidance.
  6. Refine and combine — merge the strongest parts of two ideas, add a focus keyword, and re-run until the title reads cleanly.
If a title still feels forced after a couple of runs, that's a sign the angle needs tightening — add a more specific keyword, or switch output type and compare. If you're still unsure, that's exactly the situation an experienced mentor is best placed to help with (see Academic Support below).

Ran the checks and still torn between two ideas? Message us your shortlist and a mentor will help you decide.

When You May Need Academic Support

The generator gives you a strong first draft of your thinking. Some parts of research — feasibility, methodology, rubric-fit — benefit from a human who knows your discipline.

Eight situations where a second opinion helps

Your brief or marking rubric is unclear and you're not sure what the marker wants.
You're not confident an idea is feasible within your deadline and resources.
You need your idea sharpened into a proper research question and objectives.
The literature feels too broad to manage — or too thin to support the topic.
You're unsure which methodology fits your question and your access to data.
You have ethics or approval questions about your survey or interviews.
You're close to a deadline and need a clear writing structure to follow.
You want a second opinion before committing weeks of work to one topic.

Professional academic support is optional — the tool stands on its own. If you would like assistance, AssignPro offers dissertation help, essay writing support and academic writing guidance: mentors can stress-test your shortlist, shape a research proposal, plan a methodology or structure a literature review, matched to your university's requirements. Topic Generator FAQs

A few things students ask before using the tool.

The generator is free, fast and completely private — ideas are composed locally in your browser, so your searches never leave your device.
Yes. It runs entirely in your browser — no account, no payment and no usage limits. Every run only takes a few seconds, and you can regenerate as often as you like until you find ideas worth developing.
Nowhere. Nothing is uploaded or stored. All the templates, keyword sets and logic live inside the page and execute locally, so your subject choices and search terms stay completely private.

Titles are composed on the fly from rolling templates, keyword sets, contexts, theories and current trends, so each run combines them differently. Click New Set to draw another combination instantly — no reloads, no waiting.
Every run produces original, ready-to-develop ideas: dissertation topics (each with a suggested research question, method and difficulty tag), essay titles (with an argument angle), research questions, or a full survey questionnaire. You can generate all four types for the same subject without leaving the page.
Titles are assembled on the fly from templates, keyword sets, contexts, theories and current trends, so every run differs and duplicates within a set are removed. They are starting points to develop, not answers to copy — refine the wording to fit your brief and cite the sources you build on.
Your level sets a difficulty tag: Beginner (A-Level, Diploma/Foundation, Undergraduate), Intermediate (Postgraduate/Masters, MBA) and Advanced (PhD/Doctoral). Higher levels draw on richer theory and tighter, more original angles.
Choose a dissertation topic for a proposal or long-form project, an essay title when you must argue a specific prompt, a research question for an empirical study, or a survey questionnaire when you need to collect primary data. Still unsure? Ask a mentor — it's free.
The questionnaire is a well-structured draft aligned with your topic — a useful starting framework. Before distributing it, review the wording with your institution, adapt it to your population, and follow your university's ethics procedures.
Yes. AssignPro offers expert academic guidance and assignment help — stress-testing ideas, building research proposals, planning methodology and structuring literature reviews — matched to your university's requirements, starting with a free WhatsApp consultation.
